The Will of Spencer Peugh - 1816

This was typed from a photocopy obtained from the papers of Eugene Boling Peugh and presumably that copy was made from the original on file in Loudoun Co., VA.

In the name of God amen I Spencer Peugh of the county of Loudoun and the Commonwealth make my last will & testament in manner & form following hereby revoking all others by me heretofore made.
Firstly, I give my beloved wife Mary Peugh one bed bedstead & sufficient furniture & clothing for the same to be chosen by my said wife one dining six chairs one teakettle two iron bowls her choice of my pots six knives & forks six pewter plates six teacups & saucers one cow her choice one bay mare the only one I have or sixty dollars at the election of my said wife one side saddle & bridle all the aforesaid property I give my said wife forever to will & dispose of as she may thing proper exclusive of a certain sum of money named in marriage entered into between my said wife & myself which said sum of I here Desire my Executors to pay my said wife or legal representatives out of my personal Estate as soon as it shall be sold. I also give unto my wife a lot of land whereon my son Levi Peugh moved from this fall with sufficient firewood thereon to include the houses and contain six acres of land to be laid off by Executors herein named as they may direct and at the death of my said wife it is my desire that the said lots of land be sold to the Highest bidder at public Sale by my Executors and and the money arising therefrom to be equally divided amongst my Children hereafter named Item I desire & will that all those of my [?] real & personal of whatever even it may consist of or whenever it may may be sold by my Executors here in named and all my just deb[t]s paid & the balance of money arising from sale be equally Divided amongst Children as follows Samuel Peugh Nancy Peugh now Nancy Hann Da[] Levi Peugh Sarah [] & Wm Peugh or their Legal representative.
Lastly I hereby nominate & appoint my son Samuel Peugh & John Hann my Executors of this my last will & Testament in witness whereof have here unto set my hand & seal this tenth Day of November 1816.

At a Court held for Loudoun County the 11th Day of February 1817 this last will & testament of Spencer Peugh was presented to th[] & proved by the oaths of John Chamberlain & John Jenkins to be the ackn[owledged] of the Decedent & ordered to be recorded thereupon John Hamm one of the Executors named together with Geo Marks & Josiah G[r]egg entered into & acknowledged their bond in the penalty of 16000$ conditioned as the pass dorc[i] whereupon certificate is granted him for obtaining the probate thereof in form and as another court held for said county the 10th Day of March 181[7] Sam Peugh one of the Executors therin named came unto Court & took the o[] prescribed by Law who together with John Marks & George Mark[s] entered & acknowledged & their bond in the penalty of ten thousand Dollars conditioned as the Law directs whereupon certificate is granted him for obt[?] a probat thereof in due form.
